New York Times Bestselling Author, Nicholas Sparks, will be coming to Westminster. Check out our article on WestminsterMD.life.
Incorporated in 1818, Westminster is the oldest city in the county. As the seat of Carroll County, it’s also the largest, with a population of 18,590. As expected, there is a large variety of businesses, parks, and other amenities compared with the rest of quiet Carroll County, and it is the most diverse area as well, while also still retaining much of its older architecture and charm. Located in the northern part of the county, it’s about a 50-minute drive to Baltimore, but only a 40-minute drive to Gettysburg. Westminster has a tie to the Civil War. On June 29, 1864, the cavalry skirmish known as Corbit’s Charge was fought in the streets of Westminster, when two companies of Delaware cavalry attacked a much larger Confederate force. Westminster is also home to McDaniel College a small liberal arts college founded in 1867 (and once known as Western Maryland College).
