New Windsor Information
New Windsor, nearly all of which is considered a National Historic site, dates back to 1797. Its Sulphur Springs made it a sought after destination for the rich at one time. Sargent Shriver, who once ran the Peace Corps, was born in Westminster, but had roots in the New Windsor area. His wife, Eunice Kennedy Shriver (sister of Bobby and John F. Kennedy) founded the Special Olympics. These days, New Windsor’s Servv shop, which sells fair trade crafts and goods made by the poor in developing nations, is a popular destination.
