Taneytown’s chief of police, William Tyler, and another officer were placed on administrative leave after federal agents conducted a search at the Taneytown Police Department on Tuesday January 15th, 2019.

Causes Unknown

It is unknown at this time what the exact cause was for the search and the leave. Agents from both the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives conducted the search.

This is concerning, but this is the extent of what is available apparently. As soon as vetted information can be shared it will be put out.

There was apparently no threat to public safety at the time, and the FBI also reportedly made a stop in Fairfield, PA in relation to the Taneytown Police Department.

Tyler graduated from Francis Scott Key High School in 1981, joined the department in 1994, and became the police chief in 2002. Lt. Jason Etzler will serve as the interim police chief.
