Happy Birthday CCPL! This year will mark the 60th anniversary for the Carroll County Public Library system and we couldn’t be happier for them.

Over the years, CCPL has stood as a bastion of community enrichment, literacy, and knowledge. We wish them another 60 years and many many more.

Here’s a shot of the Eldersburg Branch from 1983. How has the library changed and shaped your life?

What’s Going on at CCPL?

There are a ton of events going on at various library branches throughout the year. Though many of the initiatives are for children, some of the events are for adults as well.

In fact, this weekend, there will be an Escape Room adventure at the Westminster branch of the library. Team up with a few friends and see if you have what it takes to tackle the puzzles thrown at you to escape in time! There will also be an escape room at the Mount Airy branch as well.

Another cool event coming up at the library is called PAWS to Read. This event is for kids and young adults from ages 5-17. The purpose of this event is to improve literacy by reading to a dog! Along with a boost in literacy, reading to animals can also help young people with social and emotional skill building.

On Thursday, August 16th, mark your calendars for Dessert & Discourse: Maryland Wine with Al Spoler and Drew Baker. Tickets are $25 and the event will take place at JeannieBird Baking Company in downtown Westminster.

The day after, on the 17th, you can head over to McDaniel College for the Day for book Lovers: Lynne Olson and Tayari Jones. Tickets for the event cost $55. The ticket covers copies of Last Hope Island, and An American Marriage as well as lunch.

Libraries Rock with CCPL!

Summer Reading programs aren’t just for kids. They’re for readers of all ages! This year, the county is coming together to read more with Libraries Rock! Along with helpful reading lists and activities that you can do at the library, there is also a raffle going on until August 25th.

Along with what you may expect from a collaborative summer reading project, there are also a ton of music-themed events going on throughout the summer. Drop by your local branch of the Carroll County Public Library system to learn more about how you can get involved.

Don’t let the kids have all the fun with summer reading!
