The Carroll County Arts Council is one of the highlights of Westminster whether you’re a longtime resident, or you’re just passing through. Throughout the year, the Carroll County Arts Council hosts some great events that the community gets involved with. They also have artist galleries and plenty of opportunities for artists from all walks of life.

Whether you’re looking to get involved, our you want to get involved, here’s what’s going on with the Carroll County Arts Council.

The Origin of the Carroll County Arts Council

The council was formed back in 1969 by a group of volunteers who were passionate about the arts within their community. Since then they have been providing Westminster with amazing art and outreach that has consistently brought the community together year after year.

In 2003, they moved into the old Carroll Theatre on Westminster’s Main street. Fun Fact: The building belongs to the City of Westminster and is leased to the Carroll County Arts Council for $1 per year.

The Annual PEEPshow

Though the name may imply something spicy, this annual event is nothing but sugary sweetness. Every year, businesses and individuals come together to celebrate all things peeps. They build structures, sew quilts, and paint gorgeous paintings with the little sugary chicks as the focal point.

The entries have ranged from wacky to wild and are all worth a look. The show ran from April 12th to April 23rd this year, and though you’ve missed the fun, you can take a look at previous entries here. The dragon and Edgar Allen Poe entries from 2017 are particularly striking.

yART Sale is Coming Up in August

Another awesome annual event that the Carroll County Arts Council puts on is the yART Sale. There will be a ton of art for sale at “yardsale” prices to help keep the Carroll County Arts Council funded. If you’d like to donate to the cause, mark your calendars for Saturday August 11th through the 15th.

Accepted artwork includes anything in the 2-dimensional sphere, so we’re talking prints, paintings, photography, collage, and such. The works do not need to be framed, but they certainly can be.

Here’s a snapshot of some of the artwork for sale from last year. This is a great opportunity for you to get rid of some art that you don’t wish to display anymore or for you to find some amazing new pieces!
