A sled was struck by a Jeep Cherokee in the late morning on Saturday, December 17th, 2016. Those riding the sled, a 35 year old male and his 4 year old son, were sent to critical care. The driver of the Jeep, a 31 year old male, and his 34 year old passenger, were not injured and at this time are not expected to have charges filed against them.

The accident occurred at approximately 10:47 am according to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office’s press release. The two riding the sled were identified as Adam French, a 35 year old male from Baltimore, MD, and his son. The two were visiting relatives at a home near where the incident occurred. French was sledding down a driveway with his 4-year old son when the sled entered the roadway and was hit by a 2004 Jeep Cherokee. The driver of the Jeep, Max Nickey, and his 34-year old passenger, were not injured in the accident. At this time, charges are not expected to be filed against the driver.

Both French and his son were immediately transported to surrounding area hospitals. French, was sent to Carroll County Hospital, but was later transferred to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with life-threatening injuries. French was later pronounced dead on 12/18/16 at approximately 8:52pm. French’s 4-year old son, also injured in the accident, was transported to Sinai Hospital in Baltimore and is expected to recover.
