The 2016 Carroll County Government Christmas Tree Lighting was very different from years before. Last year it was discovered that setting the tree in the center of the fountain was causing damage to the fountain itself.
The Commissioners put the county Bureau of Facilities to task with providing a way to save the tree lighting ceremony. They came back with the proposal of a carousel around the fountain that would be lit with hand drawn horses and lights that blinked in time with music.
Doug Lindsay, the team at Facilities, and Graphic Designer Tara Mayers deserve a great thanks for their hard work and creativity for making this years Christmas Tree Lighting so special. Thanks also has to be given to the Hirt Tree Farm and Zepp’s Tree Farm for their donation of the trees that are featured in front of the County Office Building. Gypsy’s Tea Room and CUP Tea Bar& Cafe provided refreshments to keep attendees warm as the Francis Scott Key Chamber Singers sang 6 selections before the light switch was flipped.
Excellent job by county staff, community members, and everyone who attended. Drive by tonight to see the magnificent work at 225 North Center Street, Westminster, MD.
